Translational upper bound limit analysis of shallow landslides accounting for pore pressure effects

Many rainfall-induced landslides are reported to be shallow. Therefore, when regional slope stability analysis, or landslide hazard mapping is carried out, simple approaches, such as the infinite model, often used. However, model known underestimate factor of safety due absence boundary effects. More sophisticated methods that account for effects at toe and head much more computationally expensive. In this paper upper bound limit analysis (UBLA) presented with a novel failure mechanism which consists translational parallelogram in middle two log-spiral components crest capture effect. The new approach derived full range pore water pressure conditions validated by finite element analyses. For shallow UBLA found outperform conventional UBLA. results large parametric study using then used develop analytical retains simplicity traditional but yet improves accuracy considerably, making an attractive alternative routine mapping.
